What is Dance?
Interpreting music into movement - a series of poses held together with
steps - telling a story with your body - using your body in the way a
painter uses a canvas and paint to create art - I've heard it all, but nothing has
ever fully expressed what dance is to my staff or myself. All I know for
sure is that we love it, and want to share that love and knowledge with
the students.
Our studio has it's own identity: we are a community unto ourselves,
bound by a love of dance. We have even pulled together three times in
the past to raise money for various charities, raising over $12,000.00.
I love how the students of different ages and disciplines get together
to share the fun and excitement of this special event, and their sense
of community is enhanced. Most special of all is that we have 2 adult
classes per week, most of them filled with the parents of our students!
At the recital, it's a sight to behold watching the children give advice
to their parents about theatre protocol! Our main goal is to advance
technical training while encouraging a love of dance and the joy of
movement in a positive and safe environment.
We still have our children's performing
company - The Flow Dance Ensemble - with 3 divisions, Jazz, Ballet
(senior and junior) and Tap . These are classes filled with really
dedicated and talented students interested in taking their training a
step further, for some, even professional dance. We have also has
several
students go off to the Royal Winnipeg's summer audition program and have
a graduated student, Kara MacDonald, finishing up her last year of
Teacher Training at the National Ballet School of Canada.
We offer Tap exams (C.D.T.A), Royal Academy of
Dance Ballet exams, some of which are used as high school credits
according to the School Boards requirements and competitive classes for
group, solo, duo and trio work. Our other programs include Hip Hop, Urban Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre,
Lyrical (modern ballet), Contemporary, Ballet, Pilates and Move'n to the
Beat. We also have a Kinder
Dance program (between 8 to 10 weeks at a time) for children under 5
years of age. All our 10 month programs have a huge recital in June,
including the adult programs, at the Bell Theatre. This is the time of
the year that the staff really see our
studio motto come to life...You CAN fly!!!
For inquiries about our next Kinder Dance, Pilates or Move'n to the Beat or for information on
any of our 10 month programs, please call me, Julie Brash, at the studio
