About Us

What is Dance? Interpreting music into movement - a series of poses held together with steps - telling a story with your body - using your body in the way a painter uses a canvas and paint to create art - I've heard it all, but nothing has ever fully expressed what dance is to my staff or myself. All I know for sure is that we love it, and want to share that love and knowledge with the students.

Free Flight Dance opened it's doors in 1998 (first as Symphony of Dance for 4 months, then taking on it's new identity as we moved into our first free Flight space).  Free Flight is an award winning dance academy which consists of 3 fully equipped studios and an office in beautiful downtown Ladner.  We are deeply bonded to our local community and consistently give our time to support it with performances  given by our students at local events.

The studio is also home to The Flow dance Ensemble of Delta, a non profit organization established in 2005, performing regularly at the Genesis Theatre in Ladner, and other venues in the lower mainland.

Our Faculty members are carefully selected for their dedication to the art of dance and particularly for their joy of teaching children.

Our studio has it's own identity: we are a community unto ourselves, bound by a love of dance. We have even pulled together four times in the past to raise money for various charities, raising over $12,500.00. We love how the students of different ages and disciplines get together to share the fun and excitement of these special events, and their sense of community is enhanced. Most special of all is that we have several adult classes per week, most of them filled with the parents of our students! At the recital, it's a sight to behold watching the children give advice to their parents about theatre protocol!

Our main goal is to advance technical training while encouraging a love of dance and the joy of movement in a positive and safe environment.

Many of our students have gone on to profession dance programs, including the National Ballet School of Canada teacher's training, York University  Dance program, Arts Umbrella, The Source Dance Company and Modus Operandi . Students have been accepted into programs at Royal Winnipeg and National Ballet School of Canada.

Fine Art accreditation available through completion of Royal Academy of Dance  Higher Grade and Vocational Ballet exams ,which are used as high school credits according to the School Board's requirements. We offer competitive classes for group, solo, duo and trio work. Our programs include Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Urban Tap, Musical Theatre, Lyrical (modern ballet), Contemporary, Ballroom, Flamenco Fusion, Pilates, Kinder Dance and Mommy and Me.

We hold workshops, have choreography created for us and master classes with So You Think You Can Dance Canada alumni - including Nathalie, Mackenzie and Amy.

Free Flight has a huge recital for the performing classes (most of the 10 month programs) in June at the Bell Theatre. This is the time of the year that the staff really see our studio motto come to life...You CAN fly!!!
