Kara MacDonald

Kara MacDonald was a Free Flight student from the very beginning. From laying down the first studio floor to painting ceilings in the old waiting room to being seen on stage too many times to count during the year end recital: Kara was there!  After five years of dedicated training with Julie and one year with Julie and Mrs. Skinner, Kara was the first Free Flight student to pass her Intermediate level exam. In the same year as passing her exam, Kara graduated from Delta Secondary School and was accepted into the York University Dance Program to earn a BFA Honours degree. Exciting as this was, it meant leaving Ladner, Free Flight, friends, and family, to move across the country to Toronto. At the end of her first year, Kara was accepted into the National Ballet School's Teacher Training Program! This is a transfer program between York University and the National Ballet School that includes three years at York and two years at NBS. At the end of five years, Kara earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree as well as a certificate to teach RAD ballet. Kara is excited to learn more about teaching and working with children, taking up her first teaching post September 2008.

Kiersten McMaster

Kiersten graduated from SDSS and was accepted into the York University Dance Program where she will continue her dance studies, as well as eventually pursue a degree in Kinesiology. Dancing since she was 3, Kiersten has studied all dance disciplines with a focus on ballet, lyrical, and jazz.  She was a member of The Flow Jazz Co. and participated in the competitive dance program at Free Flight.  Kiersten has many memorable moments with her Free Flight family and will never forget the friends she made. One of her achievements at Free Flight is passing her Intermediate Foundation exam after only starting to study Royal Academy Ballet in the 3 years since moving to Free Flight.

Kiersten choreographed solo work, including her sister Karly's gold medal solo in the 2011 competitive circuit.

Francesca Frewer

Francesca started ballet with Julie when she was four years old and by the age of six had decided that she was going to be prima ballerina of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. At twelve, she attended the RWB's summer intensive and, while very much enjoying it, she decided that being in a ballet company was not for her. She continued to train hard and soon realized that her true passion lay in the modern and jazz styles (though she still loves ballet and will never forget how important it is!) Currently, Francesca is a member of The Source Dance Co, where she is training in various styles, and in the future she hopes to become a member of a professional modern company, with the long-term goal of being a choreographer, perhaps traveling to do conventions. "However, no matter how far I travels, I will always remember the place that was my second home for so long, where I was so lucky to get great training and so much more. Thank you Free Flight, for everything!"
